The Community After School Program Raises $570 at Talent Show Benefiting Food and Shelter for Friends

The Community After School Program children have been feeling the heat as they go on field trips, play on the playground, and even go to the pool. So, when CASP read in the Norman Transcript about the ways that Norman�s homeless have suffered during the extreme heat the CASP kids wanted to help.

The CASP kids had been working several weeks on acts for the annual CASP Summer Talent Show and were excited to show off their skills. When they learned about the problems that summer heat brings for the homeless in Norman, and that Food and Shelter for Friends needed funds to purchase a new ice machine to help with heat relief, they decided to use their August 5^th talent show as a fundraiser to benefit Food and Shelter for Friends.

The Friday afternoon talent show featured 55 children in individual and group acts. The CASP kids performed dance routines, skits, instrument and voice solos, comedy acts and much more. About 100 Parents, grandparents, friends, family and community members were entertained and generously donated $570 toward the new ice machine.

After learning how much the CASP talent show raised for FSFF, CASP Kid, John Graven, said, �That is really good! I hope the ice machine really helps them out. I also hope everyone liked my Justin Beiber skit.�

�This was a great partnership for us. You don�t understand how much this helps out. Thank you so much for doing this for us,� said April Doshier, Executive Director for FSFF when she was presented with the talent show proceeds. The CASP Talent Show donations bring the ice machine fund within $500 of its $4,000 goal.

CASP is a local nonprofit that offers affordable after school care for school age children in all 16 elementary schools. CASP provides quality programming to approximately 700 children each school day including a health and nutrition club and a free tutoring program at some of its sites. During the summer, CASP provides a Summer Day Camp at its location on Flood Avenue.

If you are a CASP parent, you should have recently received a letter from Amber Bui, CASP Board Chair, as well as notice of CASP’s 2011-12 Tuition Rates and new Sliding Scale Tuition Program (SSTP).

Please check your email and return the attached SSTP application, if appropriate, to the CASP office. If you did not receive these two important notices, please contact the CASP office at 366-5970 or email us at info@caspinc.org and we will be happy to send you the information. Be sure to check your “bulk” and “junk” mail folders and add the “Community After School Program” to your safe sender list!

2010 CASP Note Card Collection Now Available

For the fourth, consecutive year, the CASP Children have created artwork to include in the CASP Note Card Collection. This year, there were so many wonderful pieces of artwork, CASP created three, unique card collections: Spring/Summer, Fall/Winter and Just for Fun. Each card set includes 2 each of 5 original designs created by our very talented children. Winners were selected from all age groups on a variety of criteria including originality, best use of color, theme, and ability to translate to note card format.
