CASP announced it will once again partner with the Afterschool Alliance and dozens of other national organizations on October 17 in organizing more than 9,000 rallies around the country in support of afterschool programs. The 14th annual Lights On Afterschool will be the largest nationwide rally for afterschool ever held.
The Community After School Program will be hosting open houses all across Norman to showcase the amazing things that they are doing on a daily basis with the children attending. This year kicks off a yearlong celebration for CASP in reaching the 40 year milestone of providing quality after school programming in Norman. Each day over 650 children attend a CASP program in Norman, where their parents can be assured their children are safe and feel loved.
“We are delighted to join the “Lights on Afterschool” initiative, to show our continued support and advocacy for quality after school programming,” said Brenda Birdsong, CASP Director of Child Services. “The unmet need for afterschool programs is enormous, and funding is tight. Too many afterschool programs have been forced to cut back hours or services, or close entirely, because of inadequate funding. With “Lights On Afterschool,” Americans are saying they want the lights on after school for our kids.”
Last year the CASP Scholarship Program provided over $45,000 in scholarships to children in the Norman community. “Our Board is committed to making sure that children in the Norman community have equal access to our programs, regardless of a family’s financial situation,” said Birdsong.
